Regarding Canada's Long Track NextGen Program, Dec. 7, 2018:

To all concerned parties,

National/NextGen Program Selection. We understand that it is critical for coaches, athletes and programs to be aware of the criteria leading into the 2019-2020 season. With our current situation, we have left Bulletin 188 primarily the same as last season (Bulletin 184), including the Canadian Ranking System and Ranking Points system. The main changes that have been proposed are as follows:

From section 3.3 in Bulletin 184 (2017-2018)

  • Athletes will be ranked according to the 2018-2019 Canadian Ranking List by performance percentage against the 2018 Canadian Single Distance Championships time standards for the relevant age group (Senior vs. Neo-Senior) and distances
    • Skaters who have won a distance (including mass start) are selected and then ranked on performance percentage. *illustrated in green below
    • Skaters that have placed 2-4 (including mass start) are then ranked on performance percentage. *illustrated in blue below
    • Mass Start skaters will be further ranked within the pool of athletes (*illustrated in blue below) by his/her 1500m performance percentage against the 2018 Canadian Single Distance Championships time standard for the relevant age group
    • Juniors will be ranked against the Neo-Senior time standards

From section 6.3 in Bulletin 184 (2017-2018)

  • The number of races used to calculate the final 2018-2019 Canadian Rankings from Canada Cups 1 through 4 are as follows:
    • 500m Ladies & Men: best 6 rankings out of 8 races
    • 1000m Ladies & Men: best 6 rankings out of 8 races
    • 1500m Ladies & Men: best 3 rankings out of 4 races
    • 3000m Ladies: best 3 rankings out of 4 races
    • 5000m Men: best 3 rankings out of 4 races
    • Mass Start Ladies & Men: best 3 rankings out of 4 races

On behalf of Speed Skating Canada and the HPC-LT, we would like to thank everyone for their patience during this time until we have a full-time HPD in place. We are working diligently to release and provide everyone with the necessary information leading into the season. Thank you.
