We are excited to announce that Lorelei St Rose has accepted the poition of Technical Director
for the Alberta Amateur Speed Skating Association (AASSA)!
After an extensive recruiting process, we look forward to Lorelei joining the AASSA team. The role has remained vacant for 15 months and the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our ability to recruit and secure the funds to support the role for the majority of 2020.
Technical Director role is integral to our organization, especially as we look to a post-pandemic future in our sport. The priorities of the Technical Director will be connecting clubs, coaches, and sport partners across our province, while overseeing sport development from the grassroots to our provincial team, and Lorelei brings a well-rounded set of skills and professional experiences to the role. She has a strong coaching background within and outside the sport of speed skating. She was the Chair of the Coaching Development Committee for the B.S. Speed Skating Association from 2015 to 2017. She continued to coach when she moved to Alberta while taking on a role as Competition Coordinator with the Calgary Olympic Oval. Her leadership, sport management and stakeholder engagement skills will be an asset to our organization and its members. Lorelei is not new to AASSA: she’s been a member of the Skater Development Committee since 2019.
Lorelei holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology from Simon Fraser University, and an Advanced Coaching Diploma (ACD) from the Canadian Sport Institute Calgary. Lorelei is a certified Competition Development Speed Skating coach with the National Coach Certification Program. She will be enrolling in the Coach Facilitator course as part of her onboarding.
We would like to thank all of the excellent TD applicants for showcasing thier experience and talents with us and we hope to engage many of them in other AASSA initiatives in the near future too. Thank you, also, to the TD selection committee which was comprised of volunteers from across Alberta who spent many hours the past few months selecting our new TD. We would also like to thank our clubs, athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and community members for your continued support.
Please join us in welcoming Lorelei as Technical Director. She will begin transitioning into her new role as of Tuesday, April 6, 2021.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, please stay safe.
