Many Alberta Club athletes were able to do virtual summer training and are now following local and provincial protocol related to back-to-ice practices. Alberta Provincial Team suits were ordered in the summer and the ST suits have been received and are being distributed through club contacts -- thank you for everyone who helped / is helping with this effort. We will do the same process for LT suits when they arrive.

Competitions have been suspended for now, with re-evaluations happening on an ongoing basis. Please refer to the COVID-19 updates or contact info@aassa.ca for more information.

The Olympic Oval Elite Athlete Pathway in short track and long track disciplines includes many Alberta athletes. Unfortunately with the Olympic Oval ice being out until at least the end of January 2021 due to a ice plant system issue, there is no long track ice training available. Oval short track athletes have had the opportunity, along with Oval program long track athletes to do some ST practicing at other Calgary locations. Dryland sessions are continuing for these athletes at the Olympic Oval and other locations, following University of Calgary, City of Calgary and Alberta provincial health safety guidelines.

The Canadian long track program including Alberta athletes based in Calgary has also been impacted by the Oval ice-out situation and they are also doing local dryland training while anticipating an ice camp in Fort St. John in November.

The Canadian short track program includes two Alberta athletes this season and has also experienced some challenges with ice, which is currently not available in Montreal, Quebec due to increasing pandemic cases.

On the positive side, athletes, coaches and support staff are working hard to provide training and social opportunities and we appreciate all the efforts to adhere to health mandates while continuing as much as possible with speed skating activities!
