SSA COACHING TEAM

Kevin Crockett:  Kevin was a member of the Canadian National LT Team from 1993-2001 and was the 500m bronze medalist at the 1998 Olympic Games.  He has coached the Canadian, South Korean and Chinese LT national teams, all earning Olympic medals.  We are very excited to learn and work with Kevin.

Marika Nadal:  Marika hails from Canmore and skated in the Oval program for 8 years and was on the Speed Skating Alberta Provincial Team for 10 years.  Marika is CWG's Alumni (2011) with an impressive top rank of 13th at the Canadian Senior Championships in 2019.  Marika has been coaching with the Calgary Speed Skating Club for 11 years and is currently the Assistant Technical Director at CSSA.  Marika is also in the process of completing her Comp Dev Coach certification.  Marika brings a great skill set to the mix!

Phil Riopel:  Phil was on the Canadian National LT team for 9 years and in those years he competed in 23 World Cups, went to 3 Junior World Championships and the World Single Distance Championships in 2011.  Phil was the fastest Junior in 2008 in the 500m, where he also set the Junior World Record for the 1000 and 1500m distances.  He is still the current record holder for the 1000m distance.  He has lots to share with our skaters!

Brendan Yamada:  Brendan has recently retired from the Oval Stage 4 ST Program and has proudly worn the Maple Leaf, representing Canada in Holland and Italy.  He has competed in many high level Canadian competitions and is currently enrolled in the Comp Dev SSC coaching course.  Brendan's favorite distance is the 500m.  He has been coaching for the past three years and is guaranteed to provide very engaging and energetic sessions for our athletes.
