The Calgary Speed Skating Association (CSSA) will host ABLT, the Alberta Open Indoor Long Track Competition, on January 12th and 13th, 2019 at the Olympic Oval, University of Calgary.

Alberta Open Indoor Long Track (ABLT) Meet 2019

January 12th & 13th 2019

Location: Olympic Oval
University of Calgary

Entry Fees: All Groups: $65.00
Entry Deadline: Wednesday January 2nd, 2019 @ 9:00PM – Absolutely no late entries will be accepted.
  • Group 1 Olympic Style – Junior / Senior / Masters
  • Group 2 Olympic Style / Mass Start – T2T skaters
  • Group 3 Mass Start – L2T/FUNd/Active Start skaters
Coaches Meeting: Friday, January 11th @ 7:00PM in the Olympic Oval Lounge
Format: Group 1
Olympic Style
This group will include all Junior, Senior and Master skaters. This group will start competing late
morning Saturday and late morning Sunday into the afternoon. Distances will include:
  • 500m  1,000m  1,500m
  • 3,000m (Master may skate Mass Start depending on available time)

Distances will be seeded individually based on best times in the current or previous season. In the instance where no times are submitted, skaters will be seeded last.
(Race distances subject to change if required)

Group 2
Training to Train (T2T)
Olympic Style / Mass Start (CALT Distances)
This group will include all Training to Train (T2T) skaters. This group will start competing late
morning Saturday and late morning Sunday into the afternoon. 
Skaters will be grouped as follows and skate gender separate:
  • Girls 11 & 12 / Boys 12 & 13
  • Girls 13 & 14 / Boy 14 & 15

Distances will include:

  • Olympic Style 500m / 1500m
  • Mass Start 300m / 3,000m / 1500m

As it is likely that many skaters will not have skated these distances previously (or recently) skaters will be paired in the 500m based on a 400m short track time. Skaters will be seeded into the subsequent distances based on the prior results in this competition.

Group 3
Learning to Train (L2T)
FUNdamental (FUNd)
Mass Start
All divisions will be mixed gender and ages based on ability. This group will compete Saturday morning and Sunday morning. Skaters will skate 4 mass start long track distances. Distances will include:
  • 500m  100m  300m  1-3 Lap Race

Skaters will be ranked, placed in divisions and seeded into the first distance based on a 200m short track time.
(Race distances subject to change if required)

Safety Equipment:

SSC Rules D3-200 (Olympic Style) (pg112-113) and D3-300/301 (Long Track Mass Start)
(pg113-114) as referenced in the SCC Red Book, will be strictly enforced.
*All Safety equipment to be worn during warm up. CSSA recommends the use of helmets for all on ice activities.

AASSA safety rules regarding helmet use are being implemented.

On-Site Food: Food and drink will be provided for officials, volunteers, and coaches. The Food Court at the University will be available for everyone else.
Officials and Volunteers: Officials and volunteers are always welcome and encouraged to participate. Note that each CSSA family MUST participate in each of the 2 meets (ABLT & RUFast).

Oval Skate Shop: Due to the high volume of competitors, the Oval Skate Shop cannot guarantee skates dropped off on Friday, January 11th or Saturday, January 12th for sharpening will be ready for the next day.

Greetings from the Lloydminster Border Blades Speed Skating Club!

We are pleased to announce our upcoming AASSA sanctioned short track ability meet scheduled for Saturday, December 1st, 2018 at the Servus Sports Centre, 5202 12th Street, Lloydminster, Alberta.

This will be an ability meet for all ages and we are also offering an active start division that runs just before our lunch break.

The Devin Racz Memorial Relay Race is also happening on December 1st, at the end of the day (please see attached information).

The Peace Wapiti Speed Skating Club is pleased to be hosting an Interclub Ability Meet on Saturday, November 24, 2018. This meet will be a venue test event for the Canada West T2T Short Track Championship so it will be a great opportunity for skaters to tune up as well!

At this point, only scratches will be accepted. Absolutely no additions or division changes will be made!

Registration will be in the arena lobby before racing begins.

If there are enough Active Start skaters registered, they will have their own division and will skate as close to noon as possible, however, there is no guarantee on race times or quantity as it is the decision of the Chief Referee.

There will be food/drinks provided for officials, volunteers, and coaches.

The arena also features a concession and is adjacent to The Eastlink Centre which has food services.
