The inaugural Jeremy Wotherspoon Open will be hosted by the Red Deer Lions Speed Skating Club at the new and beautiful venue -- Setters Place -- in Red Deer's Great Chief Park. This meet will be a test event for the 2019 Canada Winter Games and a qualifying meet for the Alberta Team selected for the Canadian Age Class LT competition in February. RDCLSSC plans to run this as an annual event in January.

Juniors & Seniors 2 Races – $35.00

Entry Deadline: Friday January 11th, 2019 @ 9:00PM – Absolutely no late entries will be accepted.
 
Groupings:
  • Group 1 Olympic Style – Junior / Senior
  • Group 2 Olympic Style / Mass Start – T2T skaters
  • Group 3 Mass Start – L2T/FUNd/Active Start skaters

This group will include all Junior & Senior skaters. Distances will include (Olympic Style):
  • 500m
  • 1,000m
  • 1,500m
  • 3,000m / 5000m

Distances will be seeded individually based SpeedSkatingResults.

Group 2
Training to Train (T2T)
Olympic Style / Mass Start (CACLT Distances)
This group will include all Training to Train (T2T) skaters. 
Skaters will be grouped by skate gender and age:
  • Girls 11 & 12 / Boys 12 & 13 – OS 500m, Mass Start 300m, 1500m & 3000m
  • Girls 13 & 14 / Boy 14 & 15 – OS 500m, 1500m, Mass Start 300m & 3000m

On-Site Food: Food and drink will be provided for officials, volunteers, and coaches. The Food Court at the University will be available for everyone else.

Schedule: Will be sent out to all clubs the week of the meet as well as posted on the club website reddeerspeedskating.com
 
Facility: This is a brand new facility and this will also be our Canada Winter Games Test Event. We will be attempting to operate the venue very similar to the Games week. Information will be sent out during the week on change rooms, spectator entrance, viewing, skate sharpening, etc.
