Team Alberta Coach/Manager Positions for the 2019 Canada Winter Games

Background: Red Deer, Alberta will host the next Canada Winter Games. The speed skating competition at the 2019 CWG will be from February 14-23, 2019 and will include both Long and Short Track disciplines. Team Alberta Speed Skating will consist of four male and four female long track athletes, five female and five male short track athletes and a coach and manager for each of the two speed skating disciplines.

Selection: All those interested in becoming a Team Alberta Coach or Manager should submit the following completed application form and a cover letter stating why they should be chosen as coach or manager for Team Alberta. Applicants may also submit reference letters and any other supporting documents. Completed applications should be submitted to the Alberta Amateur Speed Skating Association office by April 30th, 2018 (care of This email address is being protected from spambots. Process: Prospective coaches may be asked for an interview and discussion about matters pertinent to the CWG. These interviews would be conducted by AASSA’s CWG Committee members.

Requirements: As per the CWG technical package (see below), all CWG Coaches must be a minimum fully certified NCCP Comp Dev coach in the sport of speed skating which must be obtained no later than ninety (90) days prior to the opening of the Games. Exceptions must be approved by SSC and the Canada Games Council. Managers need not be NCCP Level 3 certified, however greater consideration may be given to those applicants with higher NCCP certification as only managers with Intro to Comp certification or higher will be allowed in the field of play.

The sport of speed skating has been allocated two staff per discipline (one Long Track coach, one Long Track manager, one Short Track coach and one Short Track manager). Both short and long track staff must be comprised of one male ad one female staff. Greater consideration will be given to those coaches who have worked with the potential Alberta team athletes or who have experience coaching at the Canada Games or high performance level.

It will be expected that the named managers or coaches for Team Alberta will participate in any CWG team activities prior to the CWG. Such activities would include training camps and competitions including the athlete selection events.

Manitoba Speed Skating Association: Provincial Development Team Speed Skating Coach and Sport Development Coordinator

MSSA requires the talents and skills of a qualified Speed Skating Coach and facilitator to be responsible for programing and coaching of the Provincial Development Team in the province of Manitoba along with administration and sport development initiatives. This part time, seasonal position is expected to support MSSA’s pursuits in Long Term Participation Athlete Development Programming (LTPAD) and to guide the province’s speed skating athletes to the Provincial Team; in addition, the incumbent would be responsible for the coordination and ongoing development of the coach’s pool throughout our great province. This position is subject to self-directed job discretion and authority to perform and manage primary job functions. There is guidance and reporting relationships to both the Board of Directors and the Executive Director.
