The Alberta Amateur Speed Skating Association (AASSA) was incorporated in 1972 under the Alberta Registries Act. However, records show that the Association has been active since at least 1955. AASSA’s physical presence at the Olympic Oval began in 1988 shortly after the Olympic Winter Games. AASSA is the link between Speed Skating Canada and the provincially based clubs.
Who Are We Today?
AASSA has just over 1400 members which includes skaters, coaches, officials, parents and volunteers. There are twelve clubs in Alberta affiliated with AASSA.
Alberta is well represented by talented skaters on the Canadian National Teams for both Long and Short Track. We have officials certified with the International Skating Union who officiate at World Cup and Olympic level competitions.
